Boreal Berry Farm & Winery
Boreal Berry Farm was established in 2005 near Pembroke, Ontario where we grew a variety of organic heirloom vegetables and started a northern horticulture program to trial new fruits that will grow in a northern climate. We relocated to Warren in 2011 to start our Winery, and have expanded our program to establish our 8 acre orchard of northern fruits with haskaps (honeyberries), cherries and saskatoons. We are constructing a greenhouse this spring, and will have 23 varieties of heirloom tomatoes and we will be trialing growing northern kiwi this year in our greenhouse.
We grow a gourmet heritage garlic, German Red Legacy. It's a rich, intense tasting rocambole variety with large cloves and is easily peeled with a hot and spicy flavor. We have garlic scapes available in July. Honeyberry honey from our neighboring farm is available as well.
We are organic (in process of certification), biodynamic, and use no chemicals or additives. We use our own garlic spray and make compost teas from our own organic manure and compost.
We have a Community Share Agriculture program and are growing a variety of fruit and vegetables this year, we also offer egg shares and pastured raised chickens.
Our produce includes: 23 varieties of tomatoes, rocambole garlic, montreal melons, 6 varieties of lettuce, 3 varieties sweet peppers, 2 varieties cucumbers, pole beans, eggplant, swiss chard, bok choy, carrots, radishes, beets, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower leeks, potatoes, onions, spinach, squash (summer and winter), turnips and peas. Visit our farm to see our Canadienne Cows, our Chanteler chickens, our northern fruit Orchard and Northern Ontario's first winery. All our CSA members receive an special invitation to our grand opening event in the fall, and a free tour of our Winery.
